AULL Vol. 6
Written By Robert Bihari
These matches were taped at that special Lucha Libre Expo in Mexico City back in May I believe.
Luna Magica/Princesa Blanca vs La Amapola/La Nazi: Solid tag match that didn’t go by the usual formula. Magica was tolerable b/c her act was very toned down and she was always being controlled by the rudas. Closest she came to fucking up was a double springboard armdrag which she landed but slipped on the armdrag part. Blanca has died her hair black since I guess that’s how Felino likes his ladies. She was her usual average self and I still can’t believe anyone would find her hot. Rudas won clean. If you like women’s wrestling I actually think you’ll appreciate this match more than I did.
Robin Maravilla/Terry 2000/Ultimo Gladiador vs Krimen/Sadico/Sepulturero: AWESOME! Maravilla is fantastic and had a total Skayde-esque exchange with Sadico in the first fall including this awesome armdrag spot. It still cracks me up at how much everyone (including myself a bit) overrated Terry 2000 back when AULL footage first started leaking. The guy is pretty awful and relies on the talented rudos to carry him. He also seems to have quite the attitude and was thrown off his game when the fans began booing him. In fact his general cockiness almost ruined the big story of the match which was Ultimo Gladiador turning rudo in one of the better turns I’ve seen in a while. It started on a botch actually as he slipped while running the ropes near his corner and blamed Robin, then caught Terry laughing at him. From then on he refused to help his partners until the third fall comeback where he led the charge with spinning backbreakers on all the rudos. Robin came in to congratulate him and Gladiador accepted his handshake… and then slapped him! Terry 2000 then came in and got a spinning backbreaker! Crowd loved it and rudos quickly wrapped up the match. Great turn combined with great action early on in the match.
Flash/Neutron/Super Nova vs Goto/Okumura/Satanico: Not so good. Neutron almost dropped Satanico on his head with a spinning backbreaker gone wrong in the first fall and Satanico didn’t look too happy. Flash/Nova took the fall with a 360/moonsault respectively. Second fall was missing for some reason. Third fall was back and forth but no big moves or dives. They went home quickly for some reason with the rudos throwing Flash over the top onto Neutron and then refusing to stop kicking Super Nova so they got DQ’ed twice technically.
I should mention how awesome of an announcer Javier Llanes is. He saw the graphics for Neutron/Super Nova were wrong and made sure to correct their names which shows the viewer these guys ARE important. Meanwhile CMLL has a ring announcer who doesn’t know the difference between La Mascara and La Sombra! On the previous AULL show I reviewed, Llanes even talks about seeing Valiente first use his double springboard moonsault in an Arena Coliseo match against Spider Black which must have been from early 2004 since by mid-2004 Valiente was working with the regular undercard crew already. That’s one awesome memory Llanes has and I question why we never saw the Valiente dive until late 2006 if he had been using it regularly before then.
