IWRG on Teleformula 3/6/10 (2/28/10)

Written By Alfredo Esparza

IWRG aired the cage matches from their Guerra del Golfo event. Cage matches can be a bit hit or miss, especially when you’ve got a multitude of people in the ring at the same time. Let’s not even talk about the flimsiness of cages on the independent circuit in North America.

Before I get to the show, a few things I want to point you towards…One is the new IWRG Lucha Libre board, were you can discuss the latest going on in Arena Naucalpan.

The other is Black Terry Jr’s awesome IWRG handheld youtube page. Another place to view great lucha libre action.

On to the show…

By the way, before the show usually begins they air a ton of infomercials. If you get this channel and don’t see it starting on time, just wait a minute or so because its probably going to start late AND its probably going to end soon as well.

Some music to listen to while, reading this review!

chicocheChico Che, Gringo Loco, Tinieblas Jr., Zatura, Scorpio Jr., Hijo del Signo, Veneno and Hijo de Pirata Morgan [loser advances, cage]

Gringo Loco walks down the stairs throwing tortillas into the crowd. An edible frisbee! Whenever I go to lucha shows I go prepared with my tupperware keeping my chili, beans and meat ready in anticipation of getting a tortilla thrown my way. It beats eating a hot dog. Someone threw their tortilla back at Gringo Loco! WTF? Actually, it looks like pieces of tortilla were flying around Gringo Loco’s direction. I’ll tell you one thing, Chico Che wouldn’t throw away a tortilla! Tons of brawling in the match with Hijo del Signo and Veneno teaming up a few times on Chico Che and Zatura. One of the heel refs is helping out from the outside of the ring. According to Carlo Kolin (or is it Karlo Colin?), the match has to last 8 minutes and then THE MATCH BEYOND begins…Okay, they can start escaping the cage.

Scorpio biting Tinyballs Jr’s foot. Someone get that man a tortilla and salsa! More brawling, but now everyone is just going after each other no matter what side they’re on.

Hijo del Signo tries to escape immediately, but Zatura catches up to him and powerbombs him. We come back from a commercial break and Gringo Loco is on his way out. Chico Che tries to catch him, but Gringo kicks him off. Gringo Loco stands at the top rope and instead of escaping he does a Plancha off the top of the cage. ENOOOOORMEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! Gringo Loco gets beat down. So apparently Hijo del Signo jumped the gun a bit too soon as the bell rings AFTER Gringo Loco’s plancha. However, as soon as the bell rings, Hijo del Signo and Chico Che climb to the top of the cage. Scorpio Jr. grabs Chico Che’s leg and doesn’t allow him to escape, but Hijo del Signo is the first man out.

Hijo del Pirata and Zatura chop each other on the top rope, while clinging onto the cage. Hijo del Pirata hiptosses Zatura off the cage and then runs and climbs out of the cage quickly.

We then head into a dark underworld of lucha were we sit through Tinieblas Jr. vs. Scorpio Jr. Scorp does the international body motion for “mas chingon”, but gets headslapped by Tinieblas Jr. While these two are sending us back in time, Chubby Chico Che starts climbing the cage. Veneno immediately dashes towards him to keep him from escaping. Chico Che and Tinieblas Jr. both get fouled while trying to escape. Scorpio Jr. takes advantage of both of these guys laying in pain due to getting hit in the groondas and climbs the cage. WHAT’S THIS? Gringo Loco is also escaping at the same time. Hey, a disco ball! Zatura tries to grab Scorpio Jr., but Scorp kicks him off and escapes. Veneno successfully thwarts Gringo Loco’s escape!

Zatura and Chico Che form a bond and Zatura tells Chico to escape the cage because obviously, letting the fat guy with no mask escape makes way more sense. Chico starts climbing and Veneno dashes towards him and keeps him from escaping yet again. At this point, Chico Che, Veneno and Gringo Loco are on the top rope holding onto the cage and begin a chopfest. Then for some reason, Gringo Loco just walks back and forth on the top rope trying to decide whether to keep chopping Gringo Loco and escaping the cage. He finally decides to escape, but at this point Tinieblas Jr. stops him. WARNING: THE FOLLOWING MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN! Tinieblas stops Gringo Loco by pulling him from the tights and we see Gringo Loco’s tush and Tinieblas Jr. spanks him and pulls him off the ropes. Gringo Loco falls on the top rope.

Tinieblas Jr. uses his size to immediately climb the cage and Zatura unsuccessfully attempts to take down the giant, but Tinieblas uses his rear-end to knockdown Zatura.

4-men remaining (Zatura, Gringo Loco, Chico Che & Veneno) in the cage. Zatura goes for a moonsault on Gringo Loco, but he moves and Zatura lands on his feet. Zatura then runs towards Gringo Loco, but Gringo catapults him onto the third rope and Zatura escapes before Gringo Loco realizes his mistake. Chico Che is left in the ring with both rudos. Chico Che attempts a quick escape, but Gringo Loco grabs him and bulldogs him off the top rope.

Veneno and Gringo Loco are double-teaming Chico Che. Veneno decides he wants to go with some highflying offense off the top rope and tells Gringo Loco to move Chico Che a little further down the ring. Gringo yells out if that is far enough and Veneno tells him a little further. Veneno then climbs out of the cage while Gringo Loco is distracted! Gringo Loco is shocked at the betrayal. RUDISIMO!!!! Never trust a man who works as a waiter, does witchcraft AND poisons his opponents!

Chico Che recovers and goes for a big splash on Gringo Loco. He then tries to escape, but Gringo Loco catches up and they exchange some punches at the top of the cage. Gringo Loco knocks Chico Che towards the inner part of the cage, and then stomps him back to the ring, followed by his eventual escape. Chico Che must defend his hair in the final cage match!

El Hijo del Diablo, Oficial 911, Angelico, Arlequin Amarillo, el Ángel, Pirata Morgan, Jack and Máscara Año 2000 Jr. [loser advance, cage]

Match is joined in progress with all the participants in the ring and right when the bell rings for everyone to attempt to escape. More of your typical cage match brawling. Arlequin is the first one to escape. Angelico and Hijo del Diablo are on their knees throwing punches at each other. Angelico runs towards Pirata Morgan who is in the corner and Pirata just throws him onto the top rope at the cage. Angelico then does a double foot stomp on Pirata’s back. Angelico’s offense isn’t nearly as offensive as Kofi Kingston. Angelico tries to escape, but instead of finding the one part of the cage were no one is at, he decides he’s going to just walk by Hijo del Diablo and Oficial 911. That plan didn’t go too well for him. However, Oficial 911 tries to escape and Angelico uses him as a ladder to climb out of the cage. He then jumps off the middle of the cage, which is a stupid thing to do.

Pirata Morgan removes MAY2K Jr’s mask and proceeds to fight while wearing the mask! MAY2K Jr. can’t do anything as he is maskless. MAY2K Jr. uses his creativity and puts his trunks on as a mask! He wears tights and trunks, so he took his trunks off and put them on his head! While he’s doing this, Oficial 911 attacks Pirata Morgan thinking he’s MAY2K Jr. and Pirata takes the mask off, but that apparently didn’t seem to stop Oficial 911. MAY2K Jr. attacks Pirata and then climbs on of the cage WEARING HIS TRUNKS ON HIS HEAD!!!! El Angel tries to stop him, but MAY2K Jr. hits him with a few elbows and then El Angel does a wacky drop off the third rope. Basically a moonsault. Really dumb. MAY2K Jr. had more trouble climbing out of the cage than I ever imagined he would.

Scary looking moment as El Angel decides to escape the cage by climbing the middle of the cage. Oficial 911 tries to stop him and they fight on the middle portion of the cage and it just moves back and forth. Jack then begins to climb out of the cage from the other side while everyone else in the ring is down. Jack slips while trying to escape and that gives Pirata Morgan time to shove Jack’s feet and he crotches himself on the top turnbuckle. OUCH!

Apparently El Angel when climbing down the cage fell on MAY2K Jr. Fans start chanting “Por Pendejo” (term that is used for someone doing something stupid and suffering the consequences) towards them.

The rudos triple team Jack. Then they turn on each other. Its amazing to see Pirata Morgan nowadays. He ends up escaping the cage. He then goes over and continues to brawl with MAY2K Jr. outside of the cage. Jack then escapes the cage. This leaves Oficial 911 and El Hijo del Diablo. Diablo throws Oficial 911 into the cage and here comes the blood and a little mask ripping. Oficial 911 recovers and catches El Hijo del Diablo in a quebradora and then follows up with a bombardment of punches on Diablo’s head. He then throws him into the cage and now Diablo’s bleeding. Fun little brawl as they start chopping and kicking at each other. Diablo keeps Oficial 911 from escaping a couple of times. Hijo del Diablo tries to make his own escape, but Oficial drags him off the cage. Some really stiff chops while they’re both standing on the top rope. Oficial 911 armdrags Diablo off the top rope and both crash to the ring. Oficial 911 and El Hijo del Diablo both run to opposite corners and start climbing the cage. Hijo del Diablo is at the top, when suddenly Dr. Cerebro runs out and climbs the cage to knock him down. Meanwhile, Oficial 911 escapes the cage.

El Hijo del Diablo vs. Chico Che [cage, hair]

Hijo del Diablo remains in the cage as Chico Che enters to tune “Quien Pom Pom”. Hijo del Diablo asks for a timeout. Chico Che with a plancha on El Hijo del Diablo early in the match. Chico Che climbs the cage, but El Hijo del Diablo recovers in time to drag him down. Chico Che is on fire! Chico Che climbs the cage again, but drops an elbow on Diablo. Doctor ringside tends to El Hijo del Diablo’s bloody forehead. Chico Che shows no remorse and continues to attack. Again, with the pulling of the tights. El Hijo del Diablo tries for a piledriver, but can’t lift Chico Che. Chico Che is hulking up! Chico Che tries for his own piledriver, but Diablo slips out and works the knee! El Hijo del Diablo goes for the piledriver for a 2nd time and this time he pulls it off. Hijo del Diablo climbs the top of the cage and there he is met by Dr. Cerebro. They exchange punches and El Hijo del Diablo is able to knock Dr. Cerebro off the top of the cage and able to escape. Dr. Cerebro realizes its not his time to get a haircut decides to get out of the cage immediately. Chico Che loses the match thanks to the dreaded piledriver.

Overall fun show.
