VIDEO & RECAP: CMLL Guerreros Del Ring 52MX 1/7/12 (1/1/12)
Hombre Bala Jr. & Super Halcon Jr. vs Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II for the masks
This match was the conclusion of a several month long feud between young CMLL tecnicos that were referred to as Generacion 2011 and CMLL prelim rudos. Match was held on January 1st as the first mask match of 2012 for CMLL. First fall was all Rayos Tapatios brawling and beating up the young tecnicos. The tecnicos did very little while the Rayos just ran roughshod for the first fall victory.
Second fall was more of the same until the closing minutes when Super Halcon Jr. eliminated Rayo Tapatio II with a moonsault. Rayo Tapatio I came in and submitted Hombre Bala Jr. Then they did the old trick of the fresher tag partner coming back in and replacing the other in the match when Rayo Tapatio II came in and replaced Rayo Tapatio I and submitted Super Halcon Jr. for the win. Hombre Bala Jr. came in and told referee Rafa El Maya what Los Rayos Tapatios did and Rafa El Maya reversed the decision and DQ’ed Los Rayos and the second fall victory went to Super Halcon Jr. and Hombre Bala Jr.
Third fall was really were the tecnicos got to do a little more. They pulled off a nice frontcracker into a german suplex combination. They also hit dives to the outside. Crowd was very pro rudo, but its also likely that was the only group that was loud for much of the match as very little reaction from the non-rudo cheering crowd. Rayo Tapatio I gets eliminated after Super Halcon Jr. rolls him up in a small package. Rayo Tapatio II then forces Super Halcon Jr. to submit. Rayo Tapatio II then gets a near pinfall on Hombre Bala Jr., who kicks out. Rayo Tapatio II raises his arms to complain while still seated on the mat. Hombre Bala Jr. gets him with a crucifix for the win. Tecnicos win.
Rayos Tapatios unmask.
WINNERS: Super Halcon Jr. & Hombre Bala Jr.
Match was okay. Would have been better suited to be the semi-main event at Arena Coliseo were the feud had most of its focus at. Don’t think just because it was a mask match that fans were buying into wanting to see prelim guys higher on an Arena Mexico card.
Rush vs Terrible for the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship
Short first fall. Fans were booing Rush as usual and he played to it. Terrible hit a hard chop on Rush. Rush hits a plancha and follows up with an armdrag that he then turns into a cross armbreaker for the submission first fall victory. Fans continue to boo Rush.
An even shorter second fall. Rush hits a tope to the outside. Both guys get back in the ring and El Terrible puts Rush in La Cavernaria and gets the win.
Third fall was much longer and really was pretty good. Rush dominated the bulk of the fall, so you had a lot of fans booing him throughout. They had a good brawl outside for a bit early on exchanging chops. Rush hit a nice dive to the outside as well in this fall. They had several near falls in the match with Terrible at one point grabbing the ropes, but Rush kicked out. Rush’s pin attempts only resulted with the fans getting a little more vocal. Rush tried for a double underhook move, but Terrible broke out and instead reversed Rush into the air raid crash for the win.
WINNER: El Terrible
Pretty good match that they probably could have done in 1 fall instead of 3. Rush and Terrible have really improved in many ways. For one thing they’re very good brawlers. Rush is really good at just playing to the crowd despite being a tecnico that gets booed. It works for him.
