2011 LuchaWorld 100 Countdown: #11. Mascara Dorada

11. Mascara Dorada – (5) – (5’8″, 165 lbs, 6 yr. pro): Had another great year, but in some ways his travels to Japan made him miss some opportunities with CMLL. Toured with New Japan Pro Wrestling several times in 2011. First appearing at the Wrestle Kingdom 1/4/11 Tokyo Dome show teaming with La Sombra against Hector Garza and Jushin “Thunder” Liger. Held a multitude of titles and actually vacated a few late in 2010 and in early 2011. Lost the CMLL World Welterweight Title at the 1/22 Fantasticmania show to Ryusuke Taguchi. Returned to Japan and challenged Jushin “Thunder” Liger for the CMLL World Middleweight Title at the May 3rd Wrestling Dontaku show. Mascara Dorada then participated in the annual New Japan Best of the Super Junior Tournament. On June 18th Mascara Dorada regained the CMLL World Welterweight title from Ryusuke Taguchi. He also participated in the New Japan J Sports Crown trios tournament. Since he was traveling in Japan for part of May and much of June it was believed that had he not been in Japan, he would have been the one getting the shot at Averno’s mask that instead went to La Mascara. Won the National Parejas tournament for a second time with Atlantis. Held the CMLL World Trios titles with La Sombra and La Mascara. The trio feuded with Los Hijos de Averno throughout 2011. They lost their trios titles to Los Hijos del Averno on July 15th. He feuded with Mephisto primarily during the second half of the year with Mascara Dorada having defended the CMLL World Welterweight title successfully against him a few times including the two having a really good match in November.
