2011 LuchaWorld 100 Countdown: #26. Hector Garza

26. Hector Garza – (14) – (5’11″, 209 lbs, 19 yr. pro): Had a very busy year in 2011. Made his first appearance for New Japan Pro Wrestling at the Wrestle Kingdom show on January 4, 2011. He teamed with Jushin “Thunder” Liger and lost to La Sombra and Mascara Dorada. He made a return trip to Japan in July. After spending most of the year as a rudo, CMLL had him turned tecnico. A move that Garza wasn’t in favor of. On August 12th, Hector Garza beat Ultimo Guerrero to become the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. He only had one defense after against Rey Hechicero in Monterrey that ended in a draw. While it might seem strange for someone to win a title and not defend it, CMLL has a track record with that title in the past going years without being defended. Despite Garza being world champion and just turned tecnico, he seemed to be in the same position he was in and might have gotten a bit stale with all the turns he’d had while being a part of CMLL. On November 11th, Los Perros Del Mal held a press conference that Hector Garza had joined the Perros Del Mal promotion and was back with his old friends. Garza made his debut on November 13th helping Los Perros Del Mal on their own show. The next day Garza appeared on a AAA show helping Los Perros Del Mal. The strange part in all this was that Garza was still CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. CMLL didn’t make any announcement about Garza’s departure. Garza showed his professionalism by working his final bookings with CMLL and when asked if he still had the CMLL World Title in his possession, he stated that he had returned the title to CMLL. He also thanked them for his time and opportunity there.
