CMLL GdR 3/22/08:
Mascara Purpura/Maximo/Mictlan vs Euforia/Nosferatu/Virus: I am REALLY starting to dislike Mascara Purpura. DO SOMETHING IN YOUR MATCHES! ANYTHING! PERHAPS SOMETHING I HAVEN’T SEEN BEFORE? I don’t count blowing a somersault dive you have no reason to blow as something new… such as what he tried here. He grabbed his head afterwards but I’m gonna pretend it wasn’t b/c he smacked it on the bottom rope and hope it was out of embarassment for how awful he is. Sticking to my prediction: Purpura out of CMLL by the end of the year. Total waste of the rudos here and imagine how awful you need to be to be credit with wasting Chamaco Valaguez Jr.’s talents!
Sagrado/Ultimo Dragon/Valiente vs Mascara Ano 2000/Olimpico/Sangre Azteca: Lots of awkward moments with MA2K working with Valiente. Why those two got matched up here I have absolutely no idea. Ultimo was his usual self and Sagrado was just a bit better than Ultimo. They did a dive sequence in the third fall with the best being the Valiente Special II of course. Ultimo pinned Olimpico with his finisher that looked quite awkward.
Way below average episode.
CMLL GdR 3/29/08:
Fabian El Gitano/Felino/Mictlan vs Okumura/Satanico/Virus: Better than last week’s opener but not a great match or anything. I like how Mictlan is barely allowed in the ring even in these short <10 minute matches. Can you believe Felino is considered on the level of his partners in the CMLL ranks? Where did he go wrong? It’s not like he can pick his brother!
Volador Jr. vs Ultimo Guerrero: I’ve got to disagree with Cubs here… in his recap (http://www.thecubsfan.com/cmll/can52/20080329cmllgdr.htm) he notes this was better than Volador/Perrito and Corleone/UG but I think Corleone/UG was a tad better. Don’t get me wrong – this was fine… it just seemed like another one of those matches where any tecnico could sub for Volador and Guerrero would have worked the exact same match unlike with Corleone. I hated the second fall finish where Volador got rolled up when he went for a submission he NEVER USES. C’mon guys… at least have Volador try a move he is used to doing so we can’t see the finish coming ten seconds before it happens. Volador’s mask actually fell off in the third fall but he put it back on. Thank god the ref didn’t end the match right there… don’t laugh, I’ve seen it happen before! Finish was interesting as I thought they were going for the usual spot where Guerrero misses off the top and then Volador tried a moonsault and they go into the casita exchange for a nearfall but instead Guerrero just cut Volador off and hit an awesome Guerrero Special for the win! Volador took it like a man! Well… a man who better have had great kneepads on.:)
