This show covered the first half of the National Parejas Tournament. This tournament consists of a rudo teaming with a tecnico. Its in its third year of existence. The first two years, they went with a territorial pride storyline were guys represented their home regions, so you’d get guys representing the crowd favored home teams from Distrito Federal (Mexico City) over such other regions as Monterrey, Guadalajara, La Laguna,etc. The previous two years Atlantis & Mascara Dorada, representing Guadalajara, won the tournament. This year due to Atlantis switching sides and now a tecnico that duo could not team and thus ended their winning streak together.

Show opened with the Negro Casas-Blue Panther contract signing for their hair match that was held on March 2nd. Blue Panther then tells Casas that now that he’s signed, well now he’s screwed (except using a naughty, naughty word) and in turn Casas slaps Blue Panther across the face and charges at him. One of the ring girls is next to them and gets tossed onto the couch, while the two brawl all over the place until it gets broken up.

Máscara Dorada & Volador Jr. b Euforia & Guerrero Maya Jr. [natl pi, eightfinal]

This might have been the best match of the entire tournament! Strong start to this tournament, but it kind of fizzled past this. Featuring four really good luchadores, that shouldn’t be surprising.

Starts with some back and forth mat wrestling between Guerrero Maya Jr. and Mascara Dorada. Euforia then dropkicks Mascara Dorada and Volador Jr. jumps into the ring and super-kicks Guerrero Maya Jr. Euforia and Volador Jr. speed up the match and Euforia sends Volador Jr. to the outside. He follows up with a tope con giro on Volador Jr. Mascara Dorada then hits a tornillo on Euforia. Guerrero Maya Jr. then hits another tope con giro and hits Dorada and a fan gets kicked in the face for good measure! Beer was not spilled!

Volador Jr. and Euforia get back in and Euforia can’t get a near fall on Volador Jr. Dorada gets back in and hits Euforia with a top rope headscissors. Guerrero Maya Jr. gets in and applies the dreaded Cerebro Driver on Dorada, but Volador Jr. makes the save. Volador Jr. & Mascara Dorada double team Guerrero Maya Jr. sending him to one corner and following it up with a superkick from Volador Jr. Euforia gets back in and rolls up Mascara Dorada and he’s about to apply a submission move on Dorada, when Volador Jr. catches him with a backcracker for the pin! Guerrero Maya Jr. comes in is going to slingshot off the second rope, but Dorada hits him with a dropkick on the back for the pin.

Fun, short match. About what you’d want in this form of tournament matches.

Máximo & Mephisto b La Sombra & Mr. Águila [natl pi, eightfinal]

Nice exchange between Mr. Aguila and Mephisto to open the match. Maximo and La Sombra get in and it turns to mostly comedy with Maximo feeling up La Sombra while going for full nelson. La Sombra takes exception to this and slaps Maximo. Up-tempo match for what was about 3 minutes. Mephisto grabs La Sombra and Maximo prepares to kiss him, but La Sombra moves and instead Maximo kisses Mephisto. Mephisto gets upset and in turn hits his own partner, Maximo, with the Devil’s Wings. La Sombra walks by him and hits a top rope tornillo on Maximo for the pin. Mephisto gets pinned by Mr. Aguila.

After the match, Mephisto goes over and puts the boots to Maximo. Okay match and really from this match forward, you basically just settle for entertaining moments. Crowd seemed to enjoy the tournament.

Kráneo & Super Porky b Atlantis & Mr. Niebla [natl pi, eightfinal]

I can’t be the only person who wants to see a skit were Super Porky or Kraneo try on one of those shirts La Sombra wears as a homage to Chris Farley’s “Fat Guy in a Little Coat” scene from the movie Black Sheep?

Fun for what it was and it was an all-comedy match. Crowd really into this match. Mr. Niebla and Super Porky start the match with a little dancing. Mr. Niebla takes offense to this and slaps Super Porky. Porky cries. They then do Sumo spots. Super Porky tosses Mr. Niebla around a bit and then hits him with his butt, which sends Mr. Niebla to the outside. Kraneo and Atlantis in. They do a little more wrestling and no comedy. Atlantis hits a quebradora on Kraneo. Follows that up with a dropkick that sends Kraneo to the outside. Atlantis then follows with a tope to the outside.

Zacarias El Perico comes in AND CLOTHESLINES Mije! Mije goes to the outside. Zacarias then runs to the outside of the ring and proceeds to stumble on the outside portion of the ring, trips, gets back up and hits a weak plancha on Mije. Mije no-sells it to the delight of the fans.

Super Porky and Mr. Niebla get back in the ring. Super Porky misses a senton drop on Mr. Niebla. Mr. Niebla then hits a top rope splash for the win!

Averno & La Máscara b Olímpico & Valiente [natl pi, eightfinal]

Averno & La Mascara teaming up after a year-long feud. They start by arguing and Olimpico drop kicks Averno out of the ring. La Mascara superkicks Valiente. La Mascara and Olimpico go after each other a bit. Olimpico with two near falls on La Mascara. La Mascara gets up and catches Olimpico with a quebradora. Olimpico quickly back up, but La Mascara drop kicks him to the outside and then follows with a tope. Olimpico hits two fans. One of the guys spills some of his beer on the guy seated next to me. Its kinda understandable he’d spill some beer because he’s got TWO CUPS of beer!

Averno then goes sliding to the outside and now Valiente hits him with a tope of his own. La Mascara tries to bring Valiente back into the ring with a suplex, but Valiente reverses with a small package for a near fall. Valiente Buster on La Mascara leads to a near pin, but Averno breaks it up. Averno with a pump handle slam on Valiente for another near fall, but Olimpico breaks that up. Olimpico then applies a cristo looking submission hold on Averno that gets broken up by La Mascara. La Mascara with an STF on Olimpico, but this time Valiente breaks it up. Valiente now applies a abdominal stretch on La Mascara, but loosens up as he sees Averno is about to continue the “let’s break the move up” spot for the hundredth time. Averno misses the dropkick. Hard chop by Valiente on Averno followed by tossing Averno into a corner. Another hard chop on Averno. Valiente places Averno no the top rope and climbs on the ropes, but he’s hit by Averno. Averno with a top rope Devil’s Wings on Valiente for the pin. La Mascara gets Olimpico with La Campana…Leo Riano with his “DING DONG, La Campana!!! DING DONG!” catch phrase to close out this match.

Good short match. Averno and La Mascara refuses to raise hands together and Averno walks off.

La Sombra & Mr. Águila b Máscara Dorada & Volador Jr. [natl pi, quarterfinal]

During the luchador video intros. Some guys are video (as in they are moving) and others are just pics. What’s going on here? Did some of these guys no-show this video shoot? Maybe we need an investigative report to uncover why this intros were made this way.

Match starts with Mascara Dorada running on the ramp and hitting a flying headscissors on Mr. Aguila. Dorada then helps Volador Jr. stand on the top rope to hit a moonsault onto La Sombra and the first row fans. Mascara Dorada then follows with a tope con giro onto Mr. Aguila.

Volador Jr. and La Sombra get back into the ring. Sombra misses a clothesline and they both bounce off the ropes. La Sombra hits a nifty looking headscissors that sends Volador Jr. to the outside. Mascara Dorada dropkicks La Sombra out of the way. Mr. Aguila kicks Mascara Dorada and waits a bit for Volador Jr. Then Mr. Aguila tosses Volador Jr. to the outside. La Sombra hip tosses Mascara Dorada to the outside. La Sombra and Mr. Aguila then run and hit double tope con giros from the corner onto Volador Jr. and Mascara Dorada.

Top rope huracanrana by La Sombra on Volador Jr. for a near fall gets broken up by Mascara Dorada. Mascara Dorada gets a near fall on La Sombra with a top rope victory roll, but Mr. Aguila makes the save. Aguila gets a near fall with a face first reverse powerbomb. Volador Jr. hits a back cracker on Mr. Aguila, but there was this really awkward pause leading to that spot. Mr. Aguila slides away, while Volador Jr. stands in front of him and the La Sombra hits a back cracker of his own. EVERYBODY GETS A BACK CRACKA!!! Mascara Dorada hits an inverted rana on La Sombra for another near fall. Dorada accuses heel ref, Tirantes, of counting slow. WHY I NEVER!?!?! Aguila gets the pin on Mascara Dorada with a Canadian Destroyer and La Sombra pins Volador Jr. with his wheelbarrow suplex.

Good match with some sloppy moments.

Atlantis & Mr. Niebla b Averno & La Máscara [natl pi, quarterfinal]

Really not much of a match. Mostly revolved around the rivalry between Averno & La Mascara who didn’t get along. Late in the match, Averno accidentally kicked La Mascara after Atlantis moved out of the way. La Mascara shoved Averno. Atlantis snuck in and rolled up Averno for the pin. Mr. Niebla pinned La Mascara.

Fight ensued after the match between Averno and La Mascara. Averno took the edge and walked off angry.

Atlantis & Mr. Niebla b La Sombra & Mr. Águila [natl pi, semifinal]

La Sombra walks out alone first. Mr. Aguila clearly decides he needs backup to combat Zacarias El Perico, who is ringside with Atlantis & Mr. Niebla, so he brings along Mije! Mr. Aguila and La Sombra take the early advantage attacking Mr. Niebla and Atlantis. They double-team Atlantis with a few chops and Mr. Aguila even hits a guillotine legdrop on Atlantis. More double-teaming this time on Mr. Niebla. Atlantis gets back into the ring and is met by La Sombra. Atlantis gets thrown to a corner. Mr. Aguila’s gonna splash into him, but Atlantis moves, sending Aguila into the turnbuckles. La Sombra charges at Atlantis and he gets caught in a quebradora. Mr. Niebla comes in and tries for a quebrada on Mr. Aguila. Aguila breaks out and goes for a spin kick, but Mr. Niebla moves and slaps him. Niebla starts doing his little dance and then spits in the air (SMS). Niebla and Atlantis waste time, so Mr. Aguila and La Sombra dropkick them to the outside. La Sombra and Mr. Aguila hit tope con giros on their opponents.

In the ring, Mije is clobbering Zacarias. Zacarias then SPEARS Mije and punches him. They both slide out of the ring.

Everyone else gets back in the ring. La Sombra and Mr. Aguila get sunset flips for near falls. Mr. Niebla and Atlantis break free and Atlantis ends up catching La Sombra in the Atlantida and Mr. Niebla puts Mr. Aguila in La Neblina for the victory. Mr. Niebla gives Atlantis a victory kiss, which Atlantis wipes away. Show ends with Mr. Niebla and Zacarias El Perico dancing.
