CMLL FSE 3/9/08:
Dark Angel/Luna Magica/Sahori vs Hiroka/La Amapola/Mima Shimoda: God damn… Luna Magica might have had the best sequence she’s ever had in the first fall including doing a HANDSTAND 360 OFF THE APRON INTO AN ARMDRAG! Whoever is banging her to allow her to work in CMLL must have done her right that morning! Dark Angel was awesome as usual and Sahori mostly stayed out of the way. Sahori is good but really has no knees left (make your own joke) and somehow manages to have less charisma than La Mascara. The rudas were fine which surprised me since I usually hate Shimoda and Hiroka takes on very bad traits when she teams with Shimoda. Tecnicas got the win with a Dark Angel/Amapola feud heating up.
Felino/Mascara Purpura/Valiente vs Efesto/Olimpico/Satanico: Shockingly good for such a short match with no real feuds involved. It was a really a handicap match as either due to editing or just plain laziness once again – Purpura did a shooting star press and tope suicida and nothing else. What a lazy fuck. I *really* want to know why a guy at his age with his disadvantage (he’s not Mexican) isn’t making the most of his chance and working a million miles per hour to get over. If you combine his laziness with his negative charisma and the fact he is injured every other week – I see his CMLL run not lasting past this year. The Valiente/Satanico segments of the match were fantastic as you’d expect. Valiente even busted out his Valiente Special I in the second fall! Efesto saved his life with a nice catch. Third fall highlight was Felino going nuts on all the rudos, especially Efesto, and somehow managing to get both the referee and cameraman involved in a long sequence which led to Purpura’s bullet tope. Satanico made Valiente submit cleanly.
I really liked this episode.
CMLL GdR 3/15/08:
Mascara Purpura/Mictlan/Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel/Skandalo/Virus: If I could, I would edit everything Stuka Jr. did here into the Reyes Del Aire match. He was… ON FIRE! I rewatched all his second fall work three times! Beautiful exchanges with each rudo including that awesome mid-air flip out of a headscissors into a frankensteiner using the ropes for help and then a cartwheel off the apron into a frankensteiner on the floor! At first I thought he was gonna do a SFTD off the apron to land on his feet and then do something but I guess we’ll save that for Super Fly. WHOA I just got a neat idea for a spot – SFTD on the apron where the moonsault portion of the dive goes over the ringpost! It can be done! They let Mictlan do *NOTHING AT ALL* which is fantastic since he’s AWESOME at doing that. He got in his usual running somersault plancha in the third fall though. Purpura did his diving reverse tope, a standing SSP and then two SSP’s in the third fall. I really hope he keeps getting de-pushed. I hate lazy wrestlers more than anything. Finish was… interesting… to say the least. Can’t say I was a fan.
Negro Casas/La Parka/Volador Jr. vs Atlantis/Sangre Azteca/Ultimo Guerrero: First two falls were the usual by the numbers stuff. Third fall was really good though and they even had a teased finish or two which is rare! The attention was on Volador Jr./Guerrero who were heading to a singles match. That could be fun based on their work in this match. Volador Jr. avenged Marco Corleone by low blowing Guerrero to get the win.
A really good episode!
CMLL FSE 3/16/08:
Dark Angel/Luna Magica/Princesa Blanca vs La Amapola/La Medusa/Rosa Negra: They didn’t put as much heat on the Dark Angel/Amapola feud as I thought they might with the title match coming up. Magica didn’t get banged well enough on this day as her performance was shitty as usual including a TERRIBLE third fall spot where she was supposed to get tripped by Rosa Negra who was outside the ring but Magica refused to go down. Amapola meanwhile was already running towards her for the planned spot and at the last second Magica realized she had to fall down and then roll away but as she did it and Amapola did the planned dropkick… Rosa Negra was made to look like an idiot b/c the dropkick came up short (due to Magica’s late roll away) and she just stood there deciding whether to sell or not while Amapola yelled at her. A-W-K-W-A-R-D! Finish was a DQ for hitting the ref and then the rudas attacked Dark Angel which made sense finally.
Blue Panther/Felino/Grey Shadow vs Damian 666/El Terrible/Mr. Aguila: Totally ruined by editing. Each segment of the show I put on my ZEN usually adds up to 20:00 or so. 10:00 per match with another 10:00 for the extra activites like segments and entrances and replays. This clocked in at 11:44. That included 6 minutes of segments so they only aired about 5 minutes of 3 falls. Only thing worth noting is Quemonito outworked everyone in what was shown.
I know… there was no chance for two good shows in a row.
