Lucha Libre Azteca Vol. 73:

This was the ‘Puerta al Infierno’ show which was supposed to have 8 masks on the line in the main event but of course on the day of the show with such few fans paying in advance they added guys with hair at the last second since they couldn’t pay for anyone to drop their mask.

The camera work for this show was HORRIBLE. They seemed to have 3 different angles and would try to use each angle at least once every 5 seconds which had a dizzying effect and also meant they missed a ton of spots. They’d inexplicably cut to the announcers during highspots so you’d only get to see the tail end of whatever move was being done. I was wishing for CMLL camera work by the middle of the first match.

Astro Boy/Mascara Purpura/Valiente vs. Loco Max/Misterioso II/Sangre Azteca (joined in progress): First fall was cut but we got to see the second fall comeback and an edited version of the third fall. Valiente looked superb and perfectly hit his Valiente Special I. Astro Boy also looked great and actually hit his 360′s properly! Tecnicos went over.

Mr. Aguila/Damian el Terrible/Sangre Azteca vs. La Mascara/Maximo/La Sombra: Sombra looked great in the first fall. He hit the spot he blew at Arena Mexico once where he did a ropeflip moonsault to the floor into an armdrag on Sangre Azteca. It’s just like the wicked Angel Azteca Jr. dive except without doing it from inside the ring. There was more Maximo comedy than usual and they took it further than they would in Arena Mexico/Coliseo with actual kisses and he even pretended to butt fuck Terrible. Yep. Aguila did a running somersault plancha from the ramp into the ring at one point during the rudo beatdown. Tecnicos fought back and went for triple dives with the Brazos doing tope suicidas and Sombra trying to hit a running somersault plancha but Aguila chickened out and bailed on catching Sombra who landed on his feet but seemed to hurt his back in the process. Rudos won clean.

Marco Corleone/Rey Bucanero/Shocker vs. Ephesto/Mephisto/Toscano: Fun match. Tecnicos showed teamwork they never got to show in CMLL rings due to Shocker not being around much and when he did return they never teamed up much. Corleone’s superman plancha off the ramp won it.

Ultimo Guerrero/Super Parka/Dr. Wagner Jr./Mistico/Atlantis/Averno/Damian 666/Hector Garza – Someone loses a mask (hahahahahaha!) or their hair (that narrows it down to … 1): I wasn’t too into this for two reasons. The first was the loser was beyond obvious, it was just a matter of waiting to see who would win. The second was the rules were never made clear. I figured everyone was brawling right away b/c it was a battle royale that would turn into a 4 on 4 Torneo but that never happened. Everyone just fought and eventually decided to stand in various corners and form makeshift teams. Really stunk of nothing being planned out which doesn’t look good to the fans. They did a big dive sequence with everyone except Ultimo and Averno getting to do dives. The eliminations were spread out but entirely predictable. I began to figure Ultimo was going to be in till the end when he began bleeding and then guessed Garza would survive as well since he and Parka just had their hair match so everyone would think this time Garza is losing. I was right. In the final few minutes Parka busted out 2 seperate tope suicidas, both on Guerrero and both must have hurt his knees badly. Guerrero ended up getting the win with the Guerrero Special and he sure spiked Parka good since he got up bleeding from the cheek. Head shaving occured as the fans were leaving so nobody really cared and Parka loses his hair so much there really is no reason to.

Overall a disapointing show but not horrible or anything.

  2. Kyle says:

If you mean Hector Garza (I don’t know of a Hector Garza Jr., unless you mean his brother Humberto or he has a unknown son wrestling). http://www.slambamjam.com (owned by Alfredo, who also runs this site) has tons of Hector Garza footage. If maybe you mean his brother Humberto Garza Jr., there’s probably some stuff, look under Arena Coliseo Monterrey or Lucha Libre Azteca.
