VIDEO & RECAP: CMLL on Fox Sports (Mexico) 11/12/11 (11/4/11)
When multiple people mention a match was good or a legit match of the year candidate, that should be enough to get you to watch. This show featured a MOTYC and also included a match that kept building up CMLL’s hottest feud between Negro Casas and Blue Panther. Show aired this past weekend and was taped on 11/4 from Arena Mexico.
Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Metro b Negro Casas, Pólvora, Rey Escorpion
Match started when the tecnicos attack Negro Casas during his entrance. Hot first fall with tecnicos working as rudos taking advantage working 3-on-1. Tecnicos get the first fall when Metro pins Polvora and Blue Panther forces Rey Escorpion to submit. Casas and Angel de Oro brawl outside. Second fall was more build-up of the Casas-Blue Panther feud. They worked the early portion of the match. Metro hit a tope to the outside onto Polvora and Angel de Oro hit his handspring into a mortal spot onto Rey Escorpion, to leave Casas and Blue Panther to settle this match. Casas grabbed the ref to shove him while Blue Panther was holding him. Blue Panther then ‘fouled’ Casas and got the win.
Máscara Dorada b Mephisto [CMLL WELTER]
First fall was relatively short. Mascara Dorada hit a rana to the outside on Mephisto. Video during the finish got screwy on youtube, but apparently Mephisto got the win with a powerbomb. Second fall is even shorter than the first. Dorada gets to showcase his athleticism in this fall. He gets the fall when he hits a top rope rana into a sunset flip for the pin on Mephisto. Fantastic 3rd fall with more from Dorada including attempting a corner spot were he flipped onto the middle rope and bounced off for a splash. Mephisto moved, but still awesome looking spot. Match was somewhat similar to what you normally get from these two with Mascara Dorada putting on an incredible display of athleticism and high-flying and Mephisto bringing his usual counters in attempting to beat Dorada including using the devil’s wings three times. Once for a near pin midway through the match and later tried for it again off the top rope, which Dorada reversed and hit a huracanrana. A third attempt with the devil’s wings off the top rope resulted in a near pinfall, but Dorada kicked out at 2. Mephisto goes to argue with the ref. Camera zooms into the crowd and Mascara Dorada is up and puts Mephisto in a armbar submission hold for the win.
Main event was good. Definitely will get some mentions for Match of the Year, but just solely based on what I’ve seen this year from CMLL, I’ve liked 3-4 matches more than this one. So maybe top 5, but not my top choice. My top choice would be Guerrero Maya Jr. vs. Virus, followed by the trios match from July between Generacion Dorada and Hijos de Averno, then probably the second singles match between Averno & La Mascara and the Sombra vs. Averno match from the universal tournament.
