IWRG 11/1/07

IWRG ‘Zona De Combate’ 11/1/07:

Black Terry vs Cerebro Negro vs Fantasma De La Quebrada: I hated how they worked this under American rules with all three guys being allowed to wrestle at the same time. It would have worked much better as a traditional style match where there is a coin flip to decide who faces who and when. Made the match into quite the cluster at times. Also suffered from being EXTREMELY OVERBOOKED. I swear Paul Heyman must have flown down to Mexico to book this himself and they’d have used a table if there were any in Arena Naucalpan. Fantasma gets the upset win.

Negro Casas vs Villano III – IWRG Intercontinental Middleweight Title Bout: Well… not as good as some people were saying BUT also not as bad as some others were saying. It was exactly what should have been expected… one old guy and one older guy working the only type of match they can these days. Villano III sold little and in exchange Negro seemed to not want to sell at various points. Match moved along at an acceptable pace and none of the falls seemed particularly rushed. Unfortunately once again we had to sit through an overbooked finish that really ended the match and tournament on a sour note.

Castillo de la Muerte: The usual cage match with 10 guys fighting to keep their masks. For a match with very little name value and only 3 or 4 guys who could have conceivably lost, I give IWRG tons of credit for hyping the match itself over the wrestlers involved b/c the crowd was red hot. The result wasn’t in doubt when it came down to the final four and even less in doubt when Rayo was left with Enterrador. Finish was fine. Toro Irisson looks quite different.

Not the blowaway supershow I’m sure IWRG wanted to present. In terms of production and crowd size, perhaps. In terms of in-ring product, not even close.
